Born in the town of Longford, Martin Ryan has been singing from as long as he can remember. At the age of 13 he started a local group in Longford called the Gingerbread Ballad group. They played all over counties Longford, Roscommon, Sligo and, Leitrim. At age 16, Martin moved to live in Dublin and started performing as a guest artist before the resident bands playing the cabaret scene at the time. Venues included the Showboat in Malahide (where Joe Cuddy started the Wexford Inn) Clery's in O'Connell St and, the Lower Deck. At 20 years of age he left Dublin and moved to Mullingar. This was the start of Erin's Pride.
Originally there were 5 members, but now Erin's Pride is a two piece - Martin, and Gerry Farrell from Rosemount, Co Westmeath. Although Gerry has played with various bands throughout his time he has been with Erin's Pride for 18 years.
Erin's Pride has been playing for the last 30 years and are still going strong to this very day.
